HealthScreen’s Full Body Check Up vs Annual General Health Test

Medicine is rapidly changing and the days of ‘the old Annual Physical’ are over. Standard physical examination and a routine blood test by a doctor can only provide very limited information of your health and only advanced imaging technology can completely fulfill the requirement for a comprehensive and truly detailed health assessment and early diagnosis.

Our comprehensive health examination at HealthScreen is dramatically more advanced and informative than a standard annual full body check up.

Our full medical health examinations at HealthScreen involve a series of advanced comprehensive tests to provide you with a detailed assessment of your health, including early detection and diagnosis as well as your risk to certain health conditions and diseases. Our health exams involve cancer screening for 20 most common cancers (including breast, prostate cancer, etc.), risk assessment tests for health issues like cardiovascular disease, as well as a range of other tests - all completed within one day at our leading medical facility in Melbourne.

Our comprehensive full medical health examination is built around a proactive approach to identify your risk of future disease and provide ways to promote better health, longevity, and an active lifestyle. HealthScreen uses the latest and most innovative healthcare technology and in fact is the only medical facility in Australia to offer Early Diagnostic Imaging with MRI. MRI is known as the safest and most accurate way of diagnosis imaging - being radiation free and better alternatives to CT scans for areas such as the brain, prostate, and pancreas.

With HealthScreen, you’ll be provided with peace of mind and clarity that you’re doing everything possible for a healthier and happier you.

What are the pros and cons of a Full Body Health Check Up?

What are the pros and cons of Health Screening and a ‘Full Body’ Medical Check Up?

At your Initial Consultation at HealthScreen the pros and cons of health screening will be discussed with you in more detail and all your questions answered. You will be also then asked to sign an informed consent form.

BENEFITS OF HEALTH SCREENING

  • Early detection of diseases may result in better treatment and management, which reduces the risk of complications whilst increasing the chances of better health outcomes.
  • Health screening helps to identify if the patient is at risk of, or has a disease or condition, that was not previously known about.
  • Health screening can help people who have a family history with the process of prevention and provide them with timely treatments.
  • Early detection of cancers is fundamental to timely surgery, better prognosis and higher changes of cure.

SAFETY AND RISKS

  • There are currently only three screening programs which are government funded in Australia - Cervical Cancer (PAP smears), Breast Cancer (Mammography) and Bowel Cancer (FOBT). All screening programs, including these government programs, have a false positive and false negative rate and may lead to further investigations. At HealthScreen we provide a much more comprehensive health screening assessment.
  • However, as with all screening studies, MRI and other investigations can miss some disease processes, especially when they are small (false negative). Depending on the clinical concern there may be a need to perform targeted follow-up imaging for further clarification and evaluation.
  • Screening tests may cause some people to feel anxious or worried particularly if they are asked to have a follow up test.
  • Screening at HealthScreen is designed to supplement and complement the ongoing care provided to you by your General Practitioner (GP), not to replace it.
  • As with all screening tests, ‘harms’ can include false positive test results, when a doctor sees something that looks like cancer or disease but this is not clear. This can lead to more tests to clarify the situation, which can be expensive, invasive such as a biopsy, and may cause anxiety.
  • Screening also can lead to over-diagnosis, when doctors find a cancer or disease that would not have gone on to cause symptoms or problems.

After discussion with our medical staff and considering the pros and cons of Health Screening it will then be your decision whether HealthScreen is appropriate for you.
